Lamps

We have some wonderful lighting options in the shop right now.  Sometimes I think lamps are under-rated.  What is the purpose of a lamp?  To shed some light. But a lamp can be much more than that.  It can do triple duty.
1.  A lamp cozies a room.  Aren't you drawn to the area of the room where the light is shining?  A lighted lamp just means "cozy".
2.  A lamp can enhance the style of the room.  There are endless options of lamp bases plus lamp shades that create many different looks.  Notice the details on the bases and the shades.

3.  A beautiful or interesting lamp on a table means you can streamline your accessories by using your lamp as decoration and as lighting.

Enlightening!

Storage

Looking around the shop today and noticing some wonderful storage options we have.
In the front window we have a dark blue side table with a drawer for stashing odds and ends.  It also has an opening where you could display an artful object (like a ginger jar) or you could slide a basket in there if you wanted some more closed storage.
We also have an interesting storage cabinet that would be great as a TV stand.  You could put your flat screen on top and have room for all of your components behind the doors.  It's a solid piece and would look great painted as well.

Next up we have a pair of hand painted barn red Mersman end tables.  With the dark wax they almost look like leather.  These guys also have a drawer with room for storage underneath. Longer and narrower than your average side table, these end tables would be great next to an overstuffed couch.

Lastly, we have a pair of hand painted music cabinets.  A little taller than average, we have these two stacked on top of each other which gives them an illusion of being a tall, slender one piece cabinet.  They would be great to store linens, art supplies, small kitchen appliances, office supplies.  You could un-stack them and use them as night stands if your bed is elevated.

Keep an open mind!  You never know what  you may find.

Gifts

Only 20 days left until Christmas.  Many of my friends are already finished shopping.  Some of my friends haven't even started yet.  And, then, there are some in the middle.  Well, this post is for all of you. Even those of you who say you are finished - something always pops up at the last minute.  Today we are featuring gifts in the ten and under category - that's 10 bucks, folks.  As Melissa D'Arabian, a famous food network star says - "10 bucks, infinite possibilities".  Here we go!

A vintage pencil holder and pencil sharpener set, made in Japan.  This would be perfect for a teacher, a child, someone who loves dogs, even a gift exchange.  Ten bucks!

How about a book? We have books for budding decorators, chefs in training, and dreamers and doers.  Eight dollars and under!

A hostess set with tray, 2 spreaders, 2 packs of napkins.  This still has original packaging.  You could take this to a holiday party with some goodies on it and leave the entire set with the hostess.  Ten bucks!

How about this adorable snowman candle?  He's just waiting for someone to take him home.  Do you know a snowman lover?  Someone who likes candles?  Do you need a hostess gift?  Do you need something to roast marshmallows over this winter?  Frosty would be perfect.  Ten bucks!

Keep an open mind and visit our shop!  You never know what you will find.

Seeing Red

This week I am seeing red.  It is showing up in all sorts of places.  Take a look...

A shuttered red cabinet to use as a TV stand, or in a child's bedroom, or even mounted on the wall in your laundry room.  A little red can spice up your room.

If that's too much red for you, how about a small, vintage, red carrying case?

You could even give it as a gift to one of your favorite little people along with something to put in it. Like...
A soft puppet or two.

A Little Something For A Variety of Needs

Today, on Black Friday, we are actually enjoying a sunny filled day.  We enjoyed our families on Thanksgiving, didn't fight the midnight crowds, nor the traffic, and arrived to work well rested.  We are enjoying conversations with our shoppers and ringing up sales  Our shoppers are enjoying plenty of parking spaces, good deals, and conversations with shop keepers (maybe...).

Is your mailbox suddenly full of seasonal catalogs?  Consider..

A modern lamp by which to read.

Do you need a place to write Christmas cards?  Consider...

A roll top desk.  You can even hide the clutter if you need to.

Will you be receiving many sweaters this year?  How about...

A gorgeous oak dresser with mirror.
Stop by and check out the shop!

Thanksgiving Dinner Anyone?

We may not be able to offer to cook your Thanksgiving dinner for you but we can certainly provide a beautiful table for you to sit at.  Expecting lots of company?  Try our Stanley Table with 2 extra leaves and 6 chairs. We even have the hutch to match that will hold all of your china.

Is an intimate dinner more your style?  How about a round, oak pedestal table with 4 super comfy upholstered parsons chairs?

We are thankful for our community this week.  Our consignors, our shoppers, our neighboring businesses, our town.  And most of all, our family and friends.

You Never Know What You Will Find...

We live in a small midwestern town so you would expect to find lots of country type items in a consignment shop in such a town (and we do have those items) but you might be surprised to learn what else you can find in our shop.

A Japanese Wedding Kimono

African Art

Grecian Bust

You just never know what will turn up!  Keep an open mind and you will be amazed at what you can find.

Sign Installation Day

If you have ever opened a business or started a new adventure of any sort, you are probably well acquainted with all of the decisions that need to be made.  And, if you are interested in making your money go as far as it can then you probably understand the conversations that are a result of the process of "Can I do it myself? Do I know someone who could do it for me?  Should I have it hired out?"
In the never ending, always exciting quest to save money we decided that when it came to installing our beautiful Crossroads sign, sure, we could hang it.  I mean how hard could it be?

Then, after coming to our senses, we realized that maybe it would be better if someone else hung it.  Someone with some power tool experience-like our family members.

Then, in considering that our family members may have had power tool experience but power tool experience on a ladder was a completely different scenario.

In the end, we decided to have it professionally installed.  And I think it's the best money we've spent so far.  Thanks Haas Signs!

The Versatile Armoire

Who doesn't need more storage?  Sometimes we just need to think about using a piece of furniture in a different way in order for it to meet our changing lifestyle.  Consider the Armoire.

This is a beautiful hand carved teak armoire that was originally used to store clothing.  But what about some other uses?  It would be right at home in the family room for media or game or extra blanket storage.  It can be used as a library or craft storage.  It can house a complete home office.  In your kitchen or dining room, the armoire could store small kitchen appliances or extra sets of dishes or tablecloths, or seasonal items.  It's a great, versatile piece!

What is Consignment?

The American Heritage Dictionary defines the word consign as "to give over to the care of another; entrust, to turn over to another's charge or control; commit, to deliver merchandise for custody or sale".

At Crossroads, when you drop off your items, you are trusting us to take good care of your items in order for someone else to purchase them.  We strive to create a warm, welcoming environment where others can see your items in their best light.

Take a look at what for sale this week.

Now and Then

When we moved from one city to another, we were asked if we were going to keep our "old" name-  Crossroads Consignments.  We decided that yes, we would keep the "old" name because it represented the service part of our business.  People who have items to consign are usually at a crossroads of some sort.  Their lifestyle is changing in some way and our store provides an avenue to faciliate that lifestyle change.  Merging households?  Taking a detour?  Changing lanes?  Come to a fork in the road?  Many times you are facing a home with either too much furniture or not enough.  Crossroads is still the place for you to find great pre-owned furniture and home accessories at great prices.  Then...and now.
